Batgirl bruhaha...
I think that's how you spell bruhaha..broughaha? Eh, anyway.
Recently people having been complaining regarding DC's treatment of Batgirl. I'm not going to draw you a map through the various blog entries about the entire situation because I'm feeling fairly lazy at the moment, besides I will be linking another LJ entry that has links to the two major blogs entries on the subject.
The gist of it is that people aren't happy with the way Batgirl's been treated lately. Starting with the most recent Batgirl being mute and wearing a vaguely buggish looking outfit with the mouth sewed over, to the fact that she's now become a generic Dragon Lady-esque villianess.. to the fact that the picture of her over at the official DC site made her look like a battered women (personally I thought she looked like someone who was involved in a knock down drag out brawl and was still ready and willing to kick some more ass.. but that's me).
Anywho, with all this going on Tokyopop creator, Rivkah felt inspired to take a fun little stab at reinventing her.
Oh yeah . . . art . . .
It includes three sketches, two of her take on Batgirl and one.. er.. other. It also includes links to two of the more prominent blogs that got the ball rolling on the whole thing. Ah hell.. I will draw you a map..
It pretty much kicked off with a blog entry from Kalinara, "Of course she is...", My Problem With Cassandra Cain, where she lays out her various issues with Cassandra Cain, the most recent Batigrl.
The Johanna Carlson over at Comics Worth Reading picks it up with Batgirl's Creepy, wherein she expresses disappointment and disturb..ation..? over the picture used for her entry at DC's website.
Interesting stuff.. well, interesting enough to share I thought.
I feel I should also mention that I prefer my Bat-related characters to be dark, creepy and/or brooding rather than light and happy. That puts me into the "Batman doesn't dance" category on a certain message board, but hey.. to each their own.
